RICHARD SAWYER graduated from NYU and continued his studies at The School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute. After graduation, Richard went to work as a graphic designer in the advertising business and soon landed a position as Art Director at the most prestigious advertising agency in NY, Scali, McCabe & Sloves.
Richard moved to Los Angeles in 1973 with the intention of using his previous experience to launch a career in Hollywood. It was not long before he became one of the top Production Designers in the industry. Over the years he has worked with such notable people as Jack Nicholson, Steve Martin, John Landis, Jonathan Demme, Oliver Stone, Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg.
1998 produced the opportunity for Richard to broaden his horizon into the field of architectural design with the successful completion of his first project, The Commons at Calabasas for Caruso Affiliated. He went on to design multiple projects for them, including The Grove at the Farmer's Market. Both of these projects have been awarded the ICSC Design award for "Best In The Nation". Thus his career in real estate design was launched and he has gone on to design numerous projects for many prestigious developers.
His philosophy follows his professional lifestyle: form must follow function. He stresses an "anti-signature" approach to design by viewing each project for it's differences from any other, and then defining it's uniqueness creatively.
